Meet Nike Master Trainer Kirsty Godso

You’re a huge fitspiration to thousands, and we can’t get enough! How did you get to where you are today?

I started out teaching HIIT classes at my gym in Auckland and filming fitness DVD's for Les Mills. One day I was spotted by Nike in the gym and given the amazing opportunity to come on-board with Nike Training Club (NTC) - everything since has been a dream come true!

What is a Nike Master Trainer, and how did you become one?

A Nike Master Trainer is getting to be part of an amazing worldwide community of elite Trainers for Nike. We all have varying backgrounds and specialities which is what makes it that much more fun! I started as an NTC Trainer in NZ and Australia and gradually worked my way up to becoming a Nike Master Trainer. I still pinch myself every day.

Tell us a bit about the upcoming NTC Sydney Tour and your involvement.

I'm so excited for NTC Tour Sydney to be back! It was so much fun last year and is going to be even better this year. My role is to lead the opening workout and co-create the breakout workouts on the day with our specialists for each style of training. I'll be going around all of the various workouts on the day - Boxing, Spin, Pilates, Circuit and Running, joining in and encouraging the girls.

What would be your top fitness tips for someone who is struggling to find a sustainable workout routine?

Don’t go in too hot! Gradually introduce workouts into your weekly routine and slowly build up. That way you won't blow your confidence and your muscles in the first week! Be patient, it is a bit of a process but it is worth it.

Start today, not tomorrow! We all get way too good at procrastinating and making excuses.

What are your top 3 gym bag essentials?

  1. Nike Pro 3" Shorts or if it’s a little cooler the brand new Nike Zoned Sculpt Tights which give compressive support.
  2. Nike Flyknit Zoom Agility training shoe is a classic favourite of mine but I’m also loving the new Nike Lunar Sculpt training shoes. They’re so comfortable and cushioning!
  3. Music!

Who’s your current #girlcrush and why?

My fellow NTC Trainer Bec Wilcock. She's training for an ultra marathon which no woman has finished before. To me that is totally inspiring!!

I’ve endured one of your *awesome* but gruelling workouts. Oh My Godso. What’s your favourite way to get moving?

At the moment I am really into boxing! That's my current workout crush for sure. So I like to build elements of that into my workouts along with moves such as burpee tuck jumps, mountain climbers and pull-ups!

Tell us your goals for 2016?

I'm still chipping away at improving my pull-ups. My current goal with this is 1 pull-up with 25kg strapped to me - I'm currently up to 22.5kg so I've got a bit of work to go. Alongside that I'm always continuously working on my max box jump height which is currently at 42 inches. And then a new and different goal for me is completing the Nike Women half marathon later this year! Running is definitely a #betterforit activity for me as I don't love it but do enjoy pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
