Sticky Cinnamon Figs

I used to think figs were reserved for people with digestive issues, but when my friend at the local farmers market forced me to try the fresh stuff, I was hooked. Juicy and not overly sweet, figs make a fantastic base for stronger flavours. Here they’re paired with cinnamon and rice malt syrup – but get creative with other items in your cupboard for endless variations!

Sticky Chantenay Carrots

The nutrition in carrots are held in protein sacs that have to be broken by heat (cooking) or mechanical action (grinding, juicing, proper chewing). Also, by cooking carrots in oil you can increase the availability of carotenoids by 600 percent. This recipe calls for roasting in hazelnut oil, so you will get a maximum kick of nutrients and good fats. Serve alongside your favourite lean meat dishes.

Cacao & Mint Smoothie

This smoothie tastes like a decadent dessert, but is actually surprisingly healthy. Don’t be put off my the spinach – the chocolate and mint flavours are so strong you won’t taste it – I promise! You know mint is great for the digestion, but it also stimulates the digestive enzymes that absorb nutrients from food, turning the fat we consume into usable energy – making it great for weight loss too!
