My Everyday Winter Porridge

There's something deliciously nourishing about porridge. I have it literally every morning in winter after my morning workout. It's filling and warming, packed with healthy whole grain oats that keeps me full until mid-morning. It can go sweet or savoury too, which is perfect because I'm usually torn on that morning dilemma.

This recipe is for those people who are totally undecided about their topping game. Fruit, nuts,  seeds, coconut, herbs and spices - I don't think I could possibly jam anything else on there. I've been recently LOVING the new macro Five Grain Porridge available only at Woolworths Supermarkets - it's more nutty in flavour which lends itself well to winter flavours like cinnamon and earthy chocolate. SO GOOD. The barley, oats, rye, triticale and brown rice and also ace for your fibre intake too.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 30g Macro Five Grain Porridge
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1./2 tsp vanilla essence (optional)

Garnish:

METHOD:

Over a medium heat, add the water and grains to saucepan.

Head for 5-8 minutes, stirring regularly, until the oats reach your favourite consistency. I like mine a little less thick, so I cook for less time.

Stir in vanilla (if using) and serve into a bowl.

Add ALL the toppings your heart desires.

Want to mix it up? My fave topping combos are below:

Salted Caramel: Dates + Sea Salt + Macro Organic MacaPowder
Red Velvet: Cacao powder + Beet Latte Powder + Macro Beet It Beetroot Dusted Nuts
Almond Butter Cup: Almond butter + dark chocolate + Macro Cacao Craze Chocolate Dusted Almonds
Immunity Booster: Macro Turmeric Latte Powder + Organic Honey + Cacao Nibs

There’s now over 350 items in the organic range at Woolworths now (YAY!) so you can go wild with ALL the toppings, which is the best bit. *sprinkle sprinkle*.

What are your go-to toppings? Leave your fave in the comments below! If you are interested in learning more about Woolworths macro products and recipes visit here.
