Summer Berry Porridge

Summer Berry Porridge

Sydney’s stores and farmer’s markets are brimming full of summer berries – YAY. Some of you will be able to buy berries all year long depending on where you live (not jealous at all). Regardless, make the best of these little jewels while they’re around. They all have so much to offer nutritionally – topping the charts in antioxidant power, protecting your body against inflammation and free radicals (those molecules that damage cells and organs). They’re also loaded with fibre which helps you to feel full and eat less (for those watching their weight).

This simple porridge showcases them perfectly and is packed with protein. A great post-workout brekkie, or perfect fuel for a long day at the office.

Berry Protein Muffins

Berry Protein Muffins

Sometimes I don’t feel like having an omelette after a workout. It’s not always easy *or palatable* to get your protein needs. After much testing *poor me* this muffin recipe gets the Fit Foodie tick of approval and is a great post-workout snack. Not dissimilar in taste to your typical cafe muffin, but this one is loaded with muscle-loving amino acids that help build and repair. Also known as super muffins. That’s right.

Salted Caramel Brekkie Bowl

Two-Minute Salted Caramel Smoothie Bowl

Salt + caramel. Is there anything better? Actually, yes. A healthy version. This is one of my go-to breakfasts after an intense morning workout. It helps to replenish protein and glycogen stores and build lean muscle (which in turn burns calories – yay!). The Maca is gives the dish a toffee flavour, and works to alleviate anxiety and stress in the body. It’s also high in iron and is great for boosting energy – much needed on a Monday morning. Whip it up in under 2 minutes for a delicious dessert too.

Healthy Rhubarb & Ginger Crumble

Healthy Rhubarb & Ginger Crumble

The perfect dessert to warm your soul. Skip the traditional crumb of butter/sugar/flour and replace with these healthy alternatives to ensure you’re not left feeling bloated and guilty. Bonus: The added ginger will help to boost your metabolism!

Sour Cherry & Vanilla Bites

It’s cherry season in Aus, but for me that means hours at the sink with the new (and very unnecessary) kitchen gadget removing the pits. While fresh fruit is always best, it’s sometimes nice just to skip the hard labour and opt for the dried option instead. These delicious sour cherry bites are great when you just want something a little sweet to round off a dinner (or even breakfast, in my case) but you don’t want to devour a whole bowl of pud. This one’s for you, snacky sweet lovers… high protein, raw, gluten free: the perfect way to keep up that New Year’s resolution!

Salad a La Bolognese

Salad à la Turkey Bolognese

Swap your usual beef mince with turkey to pimp the protein and reduce the saturated fat content of this classic Italian dish. Protein can help maintain lean muscle in the body which even at rest, helps you to burn more calories. Bonus. A great lean dinner option without the heavy starchy carbs.

Single Serve Breakfast Berry crumble

Single Serve Breakfast Berry Crumble

Crumbles are one of my favourite desserts. Hot, sweet and deeply satisfying, theres just something about that oaty topping against juicy seasonal fruit. It’s a dessert I grew up with and ate at least once a week, although admittedly they were full of white sugar, butter and a whole heap of custard to boot. In typical fashion I had to recreate it, and what’s better than dessert for breakfast? Not a lot. One healthy ‘Bressert’ coming your way…

Amp up your breakfast with antioxidants from these dark berries and you’ll benefit from clearer skin, improved digestion and a stronger immune system. #winning.
