Coles launches a new Convenience Range packed with Aussie Veg + Meat

Australian supermarkets have been pretty slow on the uptake of chilled ready-meals. Growing up in the UK they were in ABUNDANCE - unsurprisingly because people have less and less time to cook from scratch. When I took my first shopping trip in Australia I was amazed at how few freshly-prepped options were available (and panicked, a lot!). Coles are about to change all that, with their new convenience range.

There will be 40 new product as part of the new range - including everything from prepared salads to quiches and soups.

'Made with great quality ingredients, developed in conjunction with local Australian producers, the range provides a convenient and nutritious alternative to take-away food.'

I had the chance to do some taste-testing and find out a little more about the range.

Coles understands that it's customers are leading busy lives, and that the need for delicious and convenient meals is growing stronger. We're juggling work demands with kids, workouts, trying to make time to 'mindful', meal planning, whilst trying to have a bit of down-time or a social life. There really is only 24 hours in a day! This knowledge helped them to create a range of prepares meals and snacks that can meet everyone's taste and budget, without compromising on good flavour. You'll be pleased to know that they're utilising quality ingredients sourced from great suppliers, including Australian fresh vegetables, chicken and eggs.

The pasta is made in Italy using traditional methods and crafted by one of the world’s oldest Italian pasta makers in the Northern Italian region of Veneto.

All products in the range include clear Health Star Ratings, so it's easier to choose the most nutritious options.

Coles General Manager Meal Solutions, Deli, Dairy and Seafood, Charlotte Rhodes, said the new range was created to offer delicious meals for busy people using quality ingredients, no artificial colours or flavours.

“We’ve worked with Australian suppliers to help take the hard work out of meal times by creating sauces, soups, pastas, pies and curries packed with flavour and made with great quality Australian meat and vegetables. We know our customers lead busy lives and they have told us they want help with the daily ‘what’s for dinner’ dilemma, so we’re introducing great value options for a quick dinner without compromising on taste. This range of delicious meals has been developed to take the stress out of meal times and give our customers more time to do the things they love. With more than 40 new products, there’s something for everyone’s taste and budget,” Charlotte said.

It's great to see big supermarkets taking the stress out of meal times, and  working with high quality suppliers to give people more options.

My verdict? I'm a bit partial to the new soup range.
