Sydney’s 10 Best Raw Desserts

Sydney's Best Raw Desserts

Raw desserts are favourite amongst all health foodies and Sydney is choc full of places for your to get your raw dessert on. These are some of my faves.

1. Orchard St, Paddington (and other locations)

Fresh made raw food breakfasts, lunches, treats and other delicacies are available to go, alongside their full range of infamous organic juices, smoothies and herbal teas. With everything from Turmeric Bark to Rose Cheesecake, you're sure to find a delicious flavour combo to please your taste buds. Get a turmeric chai and the geisha cake - you won't regret it.

Lovingly known as 'the raw takeaway', this is one to get your raw fix on the run. There's a few small tables to have in-house too, if you want to practise your mindful eating - grab a stool in the window and enjoy some great people watching on Oxford Street.

2. Acai Brothers, Bondi

If you're not on the acai bowl bandwagon yet, you're pretty late to the party. Get your fix at this trendy new Bondi cafe, where you can also pick up protein shakes, coffees and lots of raw treats.

3. Bondi Wholefoods, Surry Hills + Bondi

This places is packed out from open to close, and with good reason. They have a huge array of delicious lunches, smoothies, protein shakes and raw treats to have you glowing from the inside out. The 'Raw Nickers Cake' is a salty-sweet combo that is sure to impress even the most seasoned of raw cake eaters. It's worth the painful queue for a table.

4. Earth to Table, Bondi Junction

The brainchild of raw chef Julie Mitsios, the cake offering here is out of this world. Like, better than most cake offerings...anywhere. Gluten, dairy and sugar free (the cakes are sweetened with low GI agave or yucon syrup), there's no need to feel food guilt. Mastering a raw vegan lemon meringue takes some serious skill, but served up with house-made vegan ice cream of your choice, you'll be sorry you wasted precious stomach space on lunch. Tip: get there early to avoid disappointment.

5. Ungaro Raw, Rozelle

This sunny little cafe in Rozelle has been serving up healthy dishes to Sydneysiders for years. They cater to every single diet imaginable, with the menu clearly sign-posted for all the common allergens. Head straight to the dessert menu and grab yourself the Raw Beet, Cacao & Coconut Slice. So good!

6. Pana Chocolate, Alexandria

You'll know Pana for their amazing raw chocolate bars, but hidden in a converted warehouse in Alexandria lies a hidden gem - their dessert bar. Raw chocolates, cheesecakes and molten hot chocolates fill the menu - a chocoholics delight. Try the bounty bar, and don't forget to grab a bag of the raw granola on your way out!

7. The Health Emporium, Bondi Junction

This place is rocking the traditional shabby-chic style of most Bondi stores, but dang, it's packed to the rafters with heavenly health food. Think organic herbs, veggies, beans, grains, cereals and body care. You can grind your own nut butter too, which means when you grab a raw cherry ripe bar from the counter, you'll have a dipping partner. Fo reals.

8. About Life (various locations)

My go-to for healthy groceries and inspired salads, these guys also have a delicious selection of raw treats. If their Peppermint Slice or Raw Carrot Cake doesn't tickle your fancy, you can head to the 'build your own' bars and fill your bowl with raw vegan caramel, nuts, fruit and more.

9. Plant Gallery, Bondi

Newly opened, this Bondi restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the food is raw (and of course vegan) which means you're guaranteed to be getting a lot in the nutrient department. Their desserts are well-thought out and delicious. A much-needed high-quality addition to the hipster Bondi scene. Try the Lucuma Mousse with chocolate crumble and chocolate sauce. No beard or harem pants required.

10. Broth Bar & Larder, Bronte

Don't be fooled by the name - there's more to this place than the gut-healing bone broth. Run by the funder of Star Anise Organics (the delicious activated nuts + treats sold in pouches around health food stores), this place has a wholesome vibe. Nourishment is the name of the game, and the dessert offering is varied. Try the raw raspberry or cacao brothsicles (broth infused popsicles). They taste much better than they sound, honest.
