Sydney’s 10 Best Farmers Markets

Sydney's Best Farmers Markets

All the locally-grown fruit and veggies, freshly baked loaves, smoked fish, fresh-cut blooms and coffee carts you could ever need.

For fresh, local produce, there’s no better place than a farmers’ market – and Sydney has plenty of options for stocking a healthy fridge + pantry. This weekend, check out a farmers’ market near you, and support local farmers with a price they deserve for the quality they produce.

1. Everleigh Farmers Market

One of my favourite fresh food and produce markets with over 70 NSW and ACT farmers and artisan food producers selling fresh, seasonal and homemade produce.. Hit Kylie Kwong up for an awesome brekky.

When: Saturdays, 8am-1pm
Where: 243 Wilson Street, Eveleigh (near Redfern Station)

2. The Sydney Morning Herald
Growers' Market

This market holds a special place in my heart - it's set amongst the beautiful harbour with more than 70 producers selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to rare breed pork, specialty breakfasts and luscious (not so healthy) pastries. It's also dog friendly, so bring your pooch for an early morning walk, grab a coffee and your weekly greens.

When: First Saturday of the month, 7-11am
Where: Pyrmont Bay Park, Pirrama Road, Pyrmont

3. Orange Grove

This market is pretty large, so go with a shopping list. It has a great selection of fresh produce, gifts and fashion, along with plants for those with a green thumb. Bonus - very close to Egg of The Universe (one of my favourite health food hangouts) - so be sure to head there afterwards for a Perfect Circle Salad.

When: Saturdays, 8am-1pm
Where: Orange Grove Public School, corner Perry Street and Balmain Road, Lilyfield

4. Bondi Farmers Market

It doesn't get much better than this. Beach front setting, coffee, healthy breakfasts, groceries, live music, and plenty of grass for you to hang with friends. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare for this popular weekend spot though, so get the bus or prepare to be patient. Favourite stall? Got to be the fabulous Keen-Wah guys selling amazing chocolate slices, followed by a beet juice from Veg Press. Don't miss the local Bondi Yoghurt either - they sell out quickly!

When: Saturdays, 8am-1pm

Where: Bondi Beach Public School, Campbell Parade

5. Kings Cross Organic Market

This cute market is set amongst leafy Macleay Street at the nice end of town. Everything is on offer here from certified organic produce to food stalls, gourmet treats, flowers and good coffee. Check out Where the Wild Things Grow for your morning cold-pressed juice, who also stock a curated selection of raw treats from the amazing kitchen of Taline Gabriel.

When: Saturdays, 8am-2pm
Where: Fitzroy Gardens, Macleay Street, Potts Point (near Kings Cross Station)

6. Frenches Forest Market

Specialising in organic produce and fresh produce, these guys probably turn over the largest amount of fruit and veggies on a market in Aus. Huge array of stalls to keep you entertained, and best of all - it's open Sundays. Just in time for your weekly meal prep!

When: Sunday, 8am-1pm
Where: Parkway Hotel, 5 Frenchs Forest Road East

Website

7. Northside Produce Market

This market is my top pick if you're north of the bridge. Expect to meet the person who has picked the apples, smoked the trout, collected the eggs, or milked the goat. Lovely locals. Try the smoked garlic stall to amp up your meals with an antioxidant boost.

When: third Saturday of every month, 8am-12noon
Where: Civic Park, 220 Miller Street, North Sydney

8. The Beaches Market

Another north-side gem - assuming you're either a student, retired or like to skip work every Friday. Head to Oceana Trader for their amazing smoked salmon.

When: Fridays, 8am-1pm
Where: Pittwater Rugby Park (Rat Park) 1472 Pittwater Road, Warriewood

Website

9. Collective Harvest Farmers Market

This one wins on cool-factor. Head to the top of the old Paramount building for some rooftop goodies - weekly produce bags are curated and feature a myriad of produce to keep you inspired, nourished and educated about what is best in season. Order in advance or choose from the open market on the day.

When: Sundays, 9am-2pm
Where: (Paramount Building) 80 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills

10. Marrickville Organic Food and Farmers Markets

One for those who like a lie-in on a Sunday, this market runs right into the afternoon. Immerse yourself in the seventies hippie vibe and pick up a few antique platters while you're there for your pesticide-free haul.

When: Sundays, 8.30am-3pm
Where: Addison Road Community Centre, 142 Addison Road, Marrickville
