Alpine Retreat: Vibe Hotel, Marysville

Stressed by inner-city living, I’m always in need of some fresh air and lush green surrounds – it reminds me of home back in the UK. God’s country, if you will. Naturally when Vibe Hotels asked me to road-test their new hotel in the middle of the Yarra Valley, I already had my cases packed before I’d replied. An excellent excuse to tune out of social media, electronics and the daily grind.

While The Yarra Valley (or just The Yarra, if you’re a local) is well-known for its plethora of vineyards, it’s also an amazing place to connect with nature. There’s an abundance of waterfalls, trials, hikes and activities, along with farmers markets, spas and parks. Sounds like the perfect weekend away right? Here’s what you need to know for your own Alpine Escape:

STAY:

Opening the doors on the 12th Feb this year, the Vibe hotel at Marysville is the perfect weekend getaway. It has a great selection of rooms, ample parking, spa, and a small but perfectly formed gym overlooking the outdoor lap pool (which took my attention during my morning workouts – fabulous). Ideal for nature and adventure lovers, this alpine township is just 90 minutes drive from Melbourne. This spot is perfect for weekend getaways from the city to relax and unwind. I made it there from Sydney in just 4 hours – not bad hey?! Totally worth it for a weekend in the beautiful Yarra. The Vibe Hotel is very conveniently located in the centre of town, right in the heart of the action.

EAT:

One of my favourite places to eat was Radius Bar + Grill where the region’s fresh produce provides inspiration for the menu. 85% of the ingredients are from suppliers within a 100km radius – an awesome concept with tasty results.

Also, head to Fragas Cafe for a delightful, nourishing salad or soup – I ordered the Trout Niçoise and was not disappointed! A total improvement on the classic tuna dish.

PLAY:

  • Enjoy a spa treatment
  • Take the beautiful walk up to Steavenson Falls (which is floodlit at night)
  • Take a picnic to Gallipoli Park
  • Visit the Buxton Trout Farm
  • Walk around the local sculpture garden
  • Hire a bike and explore Marysville on two wheels
  • Drive to Lake Mountain for some beautiful scenery
  • Enjoy some me-time with in-room yoga
  • Meditate (or just be inspired by) the magical Keppel Falls.
  • Unwind in the sauna
  • Head to Buxton Ridge Winery to sample the local tipple
  • Pick your own blueberries + cherries (seasonal)

MY WEEKEND:

Now I’m no videographer {as you will soon find out}, but what’s the point of trying to explain the beauty of a stunning travel destination in words? You just don’t get the vibe of the journey. So I put my iPhone to use (admittedly, should have shot it landscape – sorry for the rookie error) to capture the essence of the trip. Check it out below Fitties!

Did you catch my exploration on Instragram?
