6 must-visit yoga studios in Vancouver

6 must-visit yoga studios in Vancouver

As home to Lululemon and the land of spandex yoga pants – you better believe Vancouverites know yoga. One thing they don't bend on is their favourite place to Namaste. With yoga studios springing up faster than hipster coffee joints, we've compiled a list of the 6 top studios so you can jump in on a piece of the action. After all, happy baby pose doesn’t just happen anywhere…

1) Semperviva Yoga

Semperviva Yoga has four studios located conveniently around Vancouver, and is a hub for new and exciting workshops. The Sea studio is a must see, located on the iconic Granville Island, with windows overlooking the water and a 180 degree view of downtown Vancouver. There are a wide variety of classes on the schedule, ranging from vinyasa power and uptempo kundalini, to chilled-out yin and gentle restorative.

3) The Distrikt

Located in North Vancouver, The Distrikt is not a studio necessarily, but more so a community space that has its own authentic vibe and dynamic variety of movement based classes. It is a place you can go to sweat, move, socialize and have fun. With flow and power classes on the yoga roster, you’ll be guided through a solid session, all the while listening to the freshest of music selections. If you’re keen to try something new, Crush Hush provides you with 75 minutes of a workout-yoga combo.

4) Dharma Yoga Vancouver

If you want to stick to your traditional yoga roots, Dharma Yoga is a great option. Lots of different classes to choose from, including meditation and pranayama, yoga nidra, pilates, hatha, flow, and master classes. Also on the schedule are Dharma yoga classes, an accessible yet challenging series based on classical yoga principles. Not only is this a great studio to expand your physical practice, it is a space that offers a more spiritual approach to teaching.

5) Moksha Yoga (also known as Modo)

Looking for a good sweat and a gentle butt-kicking? Check out a Moksha Yoga studio, with three locations around Vancouver. This series of postures helps to stretch, strengthen and tone the body and is designed to be practiced in a specially-heated room. Every studio in the community is built around seven core values: be healthy, be accessible, live green, community support, reach out, live to learn, and be peace. A heart-warming place to be, you’ll leave feeling inspired, refreshed and calm.

6) The Social Yoga

With a focus on small class sizes and a conversational, laid-back approach to teaching, you’ll have plenty of time to ask all your yoga related queries. A nomadic studio, the social yoga concept is quite unique, as it allows you to connect with others in cool new spaces around Vancouver. Some options include The Juice Truck Series, located in the community room of a hip cold-pressed juice cafe, and Meditation in Tight Spaces, a meditation class housed in a vintage streamline trailer. If you’re looking for an alternative to your typical yoga class, you’ve found it.
