3 Smoothies for Optimum Gut Health

Tummy troubles are super common in todays society. A mixture of food intolerances, stress and poor diet can leave us prone to bloating and discomfort on a daily basis. Improving your gut health can be as simple as including some super ingredients and fermented foods. Check out these delish smoothie recipes to bring your tum back into balance.

 

GINGER BREKKIE ON-THE-GO SMOOTHIE 

The following recipe makes a 600ml smoothie.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 tbs Bircher muesli, soaked
  • 1 orange, peeled
  • 1⁄2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 knob fresh ginger, grated
  • 1.5 cups rice milk

METHOD:

Blitz all ingredients in a blender until desired consistency is achieved.

The gut healing hero ingredient in this amazing smoothie is ginger. Your gut’s best friend, ginger improves digestion, prevents bloating, decreases intestinal gas and relieves nausea and motion sickness. Add to that it also has a great inflammatory properties, ginger should be a daily staple in at least one of your meals.

 

MANGO LASSI SMOOTHIE (pictured)

The following recipe makes a 600ml smoothie.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1⁄2 a mango cheek
  • 1 tbs coconut yoghurt
  • 2 kefir lime leaves
  • 2 tsp chia seeds
  • 1.5 cups coconut milk
METHOD:

Blitz all ingredients in a blender until desired consistency is achieved.

The inclusion of coconut yoghurt in this smoothie means it’s packed full of probiotics – the live cultures found in yoghurt. These are good bacteria that are ideal for building your immunity and boosting gut health.

GREEN AVOCOLADA 

The following recipe makes a 600ml smoothie.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1⁄2 avocado
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1⁄4 pineapple
  • 1⁄4 peeled lime
  • 1.5 cups coconut water
METHOD:

Blitz all ingredients in a blender until desired consistency is achieved.

SERVING SUGGESTION:

Serve this smoothie as a breakfast bowl in half a papaya topped with your favourite superfoods.
